I encourage my beginner Italian students of all ages and stages to build up comprehensive vocabulary banks that they can reference easily whenever they need it, and they’re also really useful for regular vocabulary audits, which really helps students map their progress and keep track of their learning. Students take responsibility for organizing their own learning materials from the very beginning of their learning, keeping them carefully in vocabulary learning files or folders. My students all have reference resource binders or files - these can have a range of formats - for instance, sticking into a large exercise book, or punching holes down the left-hand side, and adding to files. We also use twine or thick string, which young Italian learners really enjoy making.
I also use this kind of vocabulary list for quick vocabulary quizzes, spelling competitions and so on, and it also works well laminated for small-group work in class time. The font size is fairly large, as ensuring that language is clear and accessible is essential for beginner language learners, as they begin to familiarize themselves with words and spelling systems in a new language.
I have also uploaded a number reference sheet I give my more experienced Italian learners - it’s in landscape format, with all the numbers on a single sheet, so the font size is smaller - students who’ve been learning Italian for a while are comfortable with quite a lot of text on a single page. Have a look at it here:

ITALIAN VERBS LIST FREEBIE #2
BEGINNER ITALIAN INTERMEDIATE ITALIAN ITALIAN GRAMMAR HIGH-FREQUENCY ITALIAN VERBS LIST FREEBIE
25 high-frequency Italian verbs, listed alphabetically Italian-English and English-Italian ideal as a year-round reference resource, and students find it particularly useful for exam revision, whether working in class time or at home. It’s useful for advanced beginner Italian students to provide a language learning map, and for intermediate Italian students who are working with more complex language and texts, including authentic resources, and as a vocabulary audit and enrichment.
The verbs are all in the infinitive form and include regular and irregular high-frequency Italian verbs. I’ve noted where a verb is conjugated with essere, which is a really handy quick guide to the particular features of the verb, and useful for later learning when we look at conjugation, such as the passato prossimo for example.
It’s important in language learning to ensure that students quickly develop a useful Italian verb vocabulary bank, are able to recognize high-frequency Italian verbs, and are confident with the meaning of those verbs in their first or home language. At that point students can move swiftly on to looking at conjugation and using the verbs in a communicative and practical context, enabling them to produce more detailed and descriptive language. This is an integral element to successful language learning.
I’ve found that vocabulary lists are a great language learning support resource, and they’re really popular with students too. They work well when students keep them carefully in learning files or folders for current and future reference, either in class or at home. They also work well printed double-sided and laminated for small-group work in class.
The list is a great time-saver for teachers too - if you’re preparing resources focusing on high-frequency Italian verbs for your students, the list is a good starting point.
There are two backgrounds to choose from - Italian flag, which I generally use for Italian vocabulary display or Italian grammar display, and plain.

French Numbers 0-31 Task Cards really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their knowledge of French numbers in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping beginner French students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling longer words in French. The cards are useful not only when you’re focusing on French Numbers 0-31, but also for sub lessons, as an all-year-round starter, plenary and general ‘pick-me-up’ activity, as the goal is not simply to learn how to count in French, but also to enjoy working with French, and to feel confident about doing so.
All questions are in French, and range in complexity and challenge, both in terms of language and number skills. I’ve used visual prompts such as math symbols to ensure all learners can engage with the questions, and this helps them to begin to infer meaning from context, and to decode cues and prompts to foster understanding. I don’t allow the use of calculators to increase the challenge a little. Some questions focus specifically on French math language, which students do not always engage with very often. The level of math is fairly simple, but certainly draws on prior number and arithmetic learning.
I’ve labelled the cards A-L, so that if you have the set of 48 task cards, you can use them together.

This sampler features five questions from Sets 1 & 2 of my French Speaking & Writing Prompts. They’re suitable for intermediate to advanced intermediate French students. Speaking and writing are language skills that learners tend to find very challenging, and increased engagement with language that requires them to both reproduce language they are already familiar with, and to be creative with that language in order to produce new language is really beneficial.
The questions in the sets are differentiated, addressing a broad range of ability, which aim to progress all learners. Tenses include present, future, near future, perfect and conditional. Question formats are likewise varied, to ensure maximum opportunity to work with the different ways to ask questions in French. Some questions seek to elicit very similar information, but are asked in different language: this avoids learners simply parroting learned responses to fixed prompts. The prompts are really versatile too, specifically with a focus on speaking and writing.
The prompts broadly address the following themes: college life & study; future plans; information technology; where I live; social & environmental issues; France & travel; social activity & daily life.

This is a free set of 15 French speaking prompts, with suggested responses. My students have always found these a really useful learning activity. With the structured speaking prompts, they are able to develop confidence in their speaking, working independently in pairs or small groups. At the same time, they are building their vocabulary and enhancing their understanding and knowledge of***French grammar*** too.
There are 15 questions with 15 suggested responses. As students become more confident and competent, they begin to rely less on the prompt cards, and answer questions in their own way - and even ask them differently too, if their talk partner is using the answer card as the main prompt.
The questions in this freebie are aimed at advanced beginner to intermediate French students, though my more advanced students enjoy ‘going back to the start’ too, particularly near exam time. There’s a reference sheet, with all the questions and answers written out in full - I always provide a reference resource, and my students like to keep them in their learning folders for longer-term reference. When they create their own questions and answers for each other on the question and answer card template, they also find them really useful as a form of writing frame.

Perfect for developing German language skills in general, as well as for practicing and revising numbers 0-31 in German - there are 12 differentiated questions, answer key and recording sheet. I’ve found that Christmas is a great time to revisit language we started with a couple of months before, and these are ideal for that. The cards have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling, and really help students develop more independence in their learning, moving away from more teacher-led tasks and activities.
Challenge cards are really versatile too - we use them not only when we’re focusing on the target vocab, but throughout the year as starters and refreshers. The goal is not simply to learn and practice how to count in German, but also to enjoy working with language, and to feel confident about doing so. The questions range in complexity and challenge, and are great for honing numeracy skills too - especially if calculators are not allowed. There is a range of Christmas-theme images as visual clues for learners, Knecht Ruprecht and Weihnachtsmann - most of the questions are in German, so it’s really important to give learners appropriate support, and they’re great for stimulating discussion about German Christmas traditions and vocabulary. There’s a color set, and also a blackline set.

Encouraging students to speak can be quite challenging in the languages classroom, and I’ve found that even my more advanced learners can be quite reluctant, especially if the group is fairly large. I use a range of strategies to promote speaking, and idioms, proverbs and fun expressions which sound quite strange when translated literally are really popular - for example, we have regular competitions to see who can get the most idioms or expressions into dialogs and conversations. This works really well for students of all stages and ages. The posters show the literal translation, which generally sounds very odd, such as this particular idiom Alles hat ein Ende, nur die Wurst hat zwei - Everything has an end, only the sausage has two! and the correct corresponding translation. We also discuss other possible translations into English, which helps them understand the concept of translation, and that there are potentially many correct ways of expressing meaning accurately. The posters also lend the learning environment a real German ambiance, promoting the everyday use of German.
There are two backgrounds - the German flag looks great, but definitely uses a lot of ink, so you may prefer the poster without a background - this looks just as good! Keep checking back for more posters if you like them, as I have a huge collection!

There are two backgrounds - the German flag looks great, but definitely uses a lot of ink, so you may prefer the poster without a background - this looks just as good! Keep checking back for more posters if you like them, as I have a huge collection!

Ideal reference resource for students focusing on high-frequency German conjunctions and connectives. I’ve found that the lists are a great learning support resource, and they’re really popular with students too. They work well when students keep them carefully in learning files or folders for current and future reference. They also work well printed double-sided and laminated for small-group work in class.
This list is a collection of 35 high-frequency common German conjunctions and connectives that students will meet in the advanced beginner to intermediate stages of German learning programs, and useful for students beginning advanced German as a vocabulary audit. It’s an important step in language learning is to ensure that students quickly develop a useful vocabulary bank, are able to recognise German conjunctions and connectives, and are confident with the meaning of those words in their first / home language, so that they can produce more detailed and descriptive language and more complex sentences and texts as soon as possible. Students shouldn’t take on the task of learning 35 conjunctions and connectives all at once though - this is more of a longer-term reference resource that students can use to audit their developing German vocabulary, and it is definitely the case that frequent and regular use in real-world practical contexts is far more successful at embedding vocabulary into longer-term memory.
There are two alphabetical lists - one German-English, and one English-German, as I’ve found that most language students prefer to have both as a reference resource. There are two backgrounds to choose from - German flag, which I generally use for German grammar display, and plain.

There are 20 common German Christmas words with pictures that I’ve found ideal for children learning German. I’ve used the definite article, with masculine, feminine and neuter - there are some plurals too. I use this to stimulate discussion about gender and forming the plural in German. It’s also great for promoting discussion about***Christmas traditions and practices in Germany, and other German-speaking countries***, comparing them to other Christmas customs with which students are familiar. Over time, I encourage students to add to the list - by the end of their German learning program, they’ll have a comprehensive German Christmas vocabulary bank.
There are two backgrounds to choose from - Christmas colors, which I generally use for German Christmas display, and blackline snow.
